MEET OUR PASTORS

Pastors Rusty and Leah Martin are the senior pastors of Island Church. They founded Island Church in 2002, with a heart to empower the people of Galveston and bring the gospel to nations around the world. But this is not where their story begins.

Knowing he was called to preach at age 17, Pastor Rusty ran from the call of God for 10 years. A life of drugs and rebellion left him empty and hurting. He had been raised in a godly home and attended Pastor and Mrs. J.R. Goodwin’s church, First Assembly of God, in Pasadena, Texas. There he was a witness to the Goodwin’s supernatural ministry and the powerful faith ministries of the 60’s and 70’s.

After returning to the Lord in 1984, Rusty attended Lakewood Bible Institute in Houston under Pastor John Osteen. Rusty graduated in May of 1985 with awards in scholastics and attendance. While attending Lakewood Bible Institute, he began Rusty Martin Ministries. He then traveled intensely in the States and around the world proclaiming and demonstrating the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Thousands heard the Good News preached and were saved, healed and filled with the Holy Ghost. Faith, redemption, and the move and operation of the Holy Ghost highlighted RMM, as well as a deep desire to see the local church edified and blessed.

In September of 1985, Rusty began attending Abundant Life Christian Center in La Marque, Texas. There he met Leah Megison who owned and operated Inhairitance Salon in Galveston. They were married in August of 1986 and Leah continued in the business until 1996 when she became administrator of Rusty Martin Ministries. In January of 2001 they had their only child, Brielen Nicole, who was a miracle in their lives. After 18 years in field ministry, God graced them to enter into the second phase of their ministry, Island Church. By grace, experience, and the leadership of the Holy Ghost, Pastors Rusty and Leah continue to preach the Good News.

Now, Island Church is ready for a permanent place to call home. In 2015 we purchased a lot of land on Broadway Street, in front of the Criminal Justice Center. We give God all the glory and honor that the land was paid in cash. As we prepare for the next steps, we confess over the building project every week and put our trust in God that He will do it again!

PRE-SERVICE SET UP

Our set up team arrives before each service to turn on sanctuary lights, check aisles for supplies, and start the Meet & Greet cafe.

GREETERS

The greeter team doubles as our first impressions team! As you open the church doors, your smiling face welcomes people in.

USHERS

NURSERY

The usher team takes care of our guests and members from welcoming and seating people, to taking offerings and counting attendance.

Our nursery volunteers provide a nurturing and Jesus-centered environment for infants and toddlers, assuring parents that their little ones are in good care while they enjoy the service.

SOUND + AUDIO

The sound and audio team ensures that the quality of the sound is managed properly during praise and worship, videos, and the sermon.

LIVESTREAM

The livestream team ensures that the service is being broadcasted with balanced sound and a clear feed.

PROJECTORS

SOCIAL MEDIA

The projector team runs the lyrics during praise and worship, displays scriptures, and plays videos during the service.

The social media team takes pictures and videos of our services and special events, and also creates content for the church social media.

KIDS MINISTRY

The IC KIDS team creates an environment that helps kids explore God’s Word, while also providing an experience that will engage their hearts and minds as they learn Bible stories.

YOUTH MINISTRY

IC Youth volunteers serve on Wednesdays, teaching teens ages 13-18. They also help plan and attend special youth events.

ALTAR MINISTRY

INFORMATION

Our altar ministry team assists during altar calls and times of prayer.

The info center is stationed in the lobby after each service. They welcome our new visitors with a gift, answer questions about events, and help people sign up for various functions.
